An Art and a Science: What lies behind the perfume industry

Elke Dürksen – Essential Oils Executive

The region of Grasse, Nice, and its surroundings in southeastern France is known as the birthplace of the perfume industry. From there, this market expanded worldwide, becoming a symbol of luxury and sophistication.

The production of essential oils is both an art and a science. These oils are obtained from various natural sources, including woods like Palo Santo and Red Incense, leaves of Petitgrain, and roots like Vetiver. Each of these raw materials has its own character and complexity, contributing unique and distinctive notes to the final fragrances.

Production challenges

The first step in the production process is steam distillation, a technique that extracts the pure essence from the raw material. After this initial stage, the oils undergo a finishing process, in which they are purified and refined according to the specific requirements of each client.

The essential oils industry is constant but sensitive, with high demands in terms of quality. Maintaining uniform quality is crucial and is achieved through the standardization of manufacturing processes. Our essential oils team has a detailed understanding of our customers’ needs to ensure that each batch meets expectations.

Additionally, ALPACASA holds internationally recognized certifications such as COSMOS Natural, USDA Organic, Ecovadis, and ISO 9001:2015. These certifications not only endorse the quality of our products, but also our commitment to the wellbeing from the origin.

From the Heart of South America to the World

ALPACASA plays a crucial role in the development of the global essential oils market, providing unique oils from Paraguay to major industries worldwide. Our global presence is growing stronger every day thanks to the quality and authenticity of our products.

Among our most notable essential oils are Petitgrain, Cabreuva, Palo Santo, and Palo Santo Acetate. These products are mainly exported to Europe, the United States, India, and some Asian countries. 99% of our production is destined for export, while only 1% remains in the local market, reflecting the high demand and appreciation of our oils abroad.

Essential oils are primarily used in the creation of perfumes, fragrances for cosmetics, and aromatic candles. Each of these oils offers a unique sensory experience, capturing the essence of nature and transforming it into a fragrance that evokes emotions and memories. At ALPACASA, we are excited to be part of this sensory journey that is born in Paraguay, a country rich in biodiversity and culture that transcends continents.
